Prom is an important part of every high school girl's life, and every girl deserves to have the prom gown of her dreams. When it comes to buying a plus size prom dress, finding gowns with the right shape, fit and style to suit the woman's body is especially important.
Before shopping for a dress, determine what the wearer's body shape is. Body shapes are more important than size when picking out an outfit, as the body type determines what style of dress will suit the wearer best. For example, pear shapes have a smaller upper body and carry weight in the lower body, so the right gown will cling to the waist and skim over the hips and thighs. Other common body types are hour glass, small waist, larger bust and hips; apple, carries weight in the midsection; and triangle, larger upper body, smaller lower body. Once one understands her body type, she can figure out what her assets and flaws are and learn to dress accordingly. This helps narrow the field, as far as picking out a gown goes.
After determining one's shape, the next step is to pick out a plus size prom dressto fit the appropriate body shape. In addition to choosing something flattering, look for something comfortable. Prom is about dancing, so a gown should make it easy to dance the night away while also keeping one cool and comfortable. Look for one that moves easily and is made out of a breathable material, like cotton or microfiber. While sequins, glitter and jewels look beautiful on a gown, they might get in the way while dancing. When taking a date to prom, it's no longer necessary to completely match one's date. However, it is a good idea to get an idea of what the date might wear, just so that there will not be any clashing colors or patterns.
When trying on dresses, wear the same foundational garments that will be worn on the day of prom. If she will wear a body shaper, she should wear that to the fitting as well just to be certain the dress will fit properly. The same undergarments should be worn to any fitting she attends. This ensures that the wearer will have an outfit that fits perfectly.
